Jack Hanratty’s interim title is no more. Rugby Canada have confirmed that the former Leinster development officer is now the permanent Senior Women’s Sevens Head Coach. The full-time role had been technically vacant since the controversial departure of John Tait prior to the Tokyo Olympics.
Since making the move from Dublin to Halifax a decade ago, Hanratty has been at the helm of Nova Scotia provincial rugby while also assisting with several Canada age-grade sides. He was previously Head Coach of the Women’s u20s and was an assistant with the Senior Women’s XVs until being named interim coach of the Sevens side in October.
The young Canadian side finished 7th on the World Sevens Series this past season and 4th at the Commonwealth Games. Hanratty will now lead the side to next month’s Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town. Mick Byrne was interim coach in the months following Tait’s departure, coaching the Canada Women to the Olympics before taking up the top job with the Fijian Drua.
