Changes to Argentina roster for Wallabies battle in San Juan

Round two of the Rugby Championship will be a repeat of round one: Argentina host Australia and South Africa host New Zealand. Game two between Los Pumas and the Wallabies will be played in San Juan.

Argentina’s roster for the San Juan test match features three changes. Two involve players who will miss the match and one sees a player added to increase the number of wingers.

Veteran fly half Nicolás Sánchez is officially out of the roster. The Stade Français play-maker was injured in the opening test match against Scotland. His recovery has not gone as smoothly as had been anticipated. He will miss the San Juan fixture and the two matches against the All Blacks in New Zealand.

The loss of Sánchez follows that of Benjamín Urdapilleta. The Castres play-maker was injured in the Top 14 Final and has been unavailable for test duty as a result. Michael Cheika replaced Urdapilleta with Tomás Albornoz who debuted on Saturday in Mendoza. Albornoz is the understudy to Santiago Carreras.

The second player out of the San Juan test match is Mayco Vivas. The loose head prop became a father recently and is being given time with his family. He earned two caps in the three-match-series against Scotland. He was a replacement in Jujuy and in Salta.

The third player change is sees the addition of Bautista Delguy. The winger has joined the roster following time to settle-in with his new Top 14 club. Delguy signed for Clermont for the new season. He joins new club mate Tomás Lavanini on the roster in San Juan.

Delguy will begin training on Monday with Los Pumas. He will be pushing for a place in the starting lineup. He started in the win over Scotland in Santiago del Estero. Santiago Cordero started the two other tests and also played right wing against Australia in Mendoza.
