Argentina defeat Australia in u20 Rugby Championship

Argentina defeated Australia 24-21 on Friday in the u20 Rugby Championship in Australia. Los Pumitas won with a penalty in the final minute. Replacement fly half Agustín Sascaro was the hero.

Los Pumitas outscored the Junior Wallabies by three tries to two. The first try came very early; the Argentine u20’s side were awarded a penalty try in the 5th minute. It was the first of two for the visitors during the match. The Junior Wallabies also scored a penalty try during the match.

The Junior Wallabies responded to the early score through a Mason Gordon Penalty. The Australian fly half landed three during the match. He was also on target to convert Mac Grealy’s try in the 18th minute as well as a penalty two minutes thereafter.

Los Pumitas rebounded with their second try. A dominant scrum won a penalty try in the 27th minute. Gordon responded with his third, and final, penalty of the game.

The second half started well for the visitors. SLAR forward Eliseo Chiavassa went over to score in the try zone. Tomás Suarez Folch added the conversion. The Junior Wallabies’ penalty try came late in the game and appeared to see the home side victorious; notwithstanding, Sascaro landed the winning kick. Australia did have a late opportunity but Gordon’s attempt was wide.

Los Pumitas now turn their attention to New Zealand while the Junior Wallabies will take-on Fiji in their next fixture.
