Two Chilean backs in doubt for RWC Qualifiers vs USA

Two Chilean backs are in doubt for the upcoming international duty. Chile will face the USA in a home-and-away series in July. The winner, on aggregate, will qualify for Rugby World Cup 2023 as Americas 2. Two Chilean backs who started against Scotland ‘A’ on Saturday are now in doubt for the series.

The French-based Iñaki Ayarza started at inside center for Los Cóndores against Scotland ‘A’. Selknam fulback Francisco Urroz started in his SLAR position. Both players were replaced with injuries. Others were injured, though are expected to recover fully and be free to face the Eagles.

Chile finished Saturday’s match against Scotland ‘A’ with thirteen players on the field. Pablo Lemoine had emptied his bench which saw nobody able to replace two players following Santiago Edwards’ 78th minute try. Scotland ‘A’ ran in two tries in the final minute of play.

Lemoine and Chile are now monitoring both Ayarza and Urroz. The fact that both men started the match means that both are in the frame for the RWC qualifiers against the USA. Without them changes are expected to see Matías Garafulic moving to inside center and Santiago Videla playing fullback. They started in these positions against Canada in 2021.
