Canadian international Matt Beukeboom has signed a two-year contract with Soyaux-Angoulême, also known as SA XV Charente. The 25-year-old lock or blindside flanker will stay in the Pro D2, with Charente achieving promotion from Nationale 1 this past season.
Beukeboom spent the 2021-2022 campaign with Bourg-en-Bresse. He appeared in 10 matches, starting 5 games. A shoulder injury suffered in February brought a premature end to his season.
This will be Beukeboom’s fourth professional club in France. Three seasons in the Pau academy system beginning in 2016 earned him ‘JIFF’ status, which designates him as a local player. He then signed on with Montauban in 2019 before making the move to US Bressane.
Despite being one of Canada’s few full-time European professionals Beukeboom has not made a test appearance since the 2017 Americas Rugby Championship. Debuting against Chile in February of that year, his first start saw him lining up alongside older brother Brett against Brazil.
