Julián Montoya and Matías Moroni are English Champions

Julián Montoya and Matías Moroni have conquered the top of English professional rugby. The Argentine players started for the Leicester Tigers in Saturday’s English Premiership Final. The Leicester Tigers were 15-12 winners over Saracens. Montoya started at hooker and Moroni played outside center.

The two men were Super Rugby teammates for beaten finalists, Los Jaguares in the 2019 Super Rugby Final. Fast forward three years and they are English champions.

The Leicester Tigers won the 2022 English Premiership Final by three points but scored both tries of the match. The win came one minute from full-time with a drop-goal. The teams had been level at 12-12.

Montoya and Moroni will now turn their attention to Los Pumas. Montoya will lead Argentina against Scotland in three test matches next month in Northern Argentina. Moroni was a late addition to the roster following injury to Santiago Chocobares.

The July Internationals will be the first of three stages of international competition for Los Pumas in 2022. The second will be the Rugby Championship and the third the November Internationals. There Rugby Championship will see two home matches against Australia, two road matches against New Zealand and split matches against South Africa. The November fixtures will be a tour to England, Scotland, and Wales.

Montoya will continue his career next season at the Leicester Tigers. Moroni’s status is presently being finalized. He has been linked to a move to English Premiership rivals the Newcastle Falcons.
