Viadana sign Italian eligible Mariano Romanini from SLAR

Mariano Romanini will continue his career in Italy. The Argentine N8 has signed for Viadana to play in the Top 10. The move comes following his involvement in the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) for the Olímpia Lions. Romanini was among the leading players in his position in the South American professional league.

Viadana will be Romanini’s second foreign club and first experience outside of South America. This is so despite him previouly having been on the radar for Los Jaguares in Super Rugby. He played for the Argentina XV in the Americas Rugby Championship (ARC) and was a part of the 2016 Argentine u20s team.

Aged 26, Romanini is a highly gifted back-rower. He has a strong defensive and offensive game and is also a reliable worker in the linout. He is a product of Alumni in Buenos Aires.

Known as a strong ball-carrier and defender, Romanini may be of interest to more people in Italian rugby than merely those at Viadana and rival Top 10 clubs. Romanini is eligible to play for Italy via his grandfather. Changes to player eligibility laws mean that Italy can now cap the Buenos Aires back-rower.
