LA Giltinis second team to be disqualified from MLR playoffs

In a stunning turn of events a second team has been disqualified from the Major League Rugby playoffs. The LA Giltinis have now joined the Austin Gilgronis on the sidelines. Once again MLR has not provided any further information apart from stating the team has violated league rules.

LA are the defending champions and were due to host the Western Conference Final next weekend. That will now be passed to the Houston SaberCats. Sunday’s Western Conference Playoff will be hosted by the Seattle Seawolves, who will take on the San Diego Legion. Both Seattle and San Diego had initially been eliminated from playoff contention.

There is a notable connection between LA and Austin – both teams are owned by Adam Gilchrist. The Gilgronis are in the process of being sold but Gilchrist was said to be intent on keeping the Giltinis. It remains to be seen what affect this will have on the future of the two franchises.
