Colombia’s Andrés Zafra and Brive are safe in Top 14

A Colombia-Argentina second-row helped Brive avoid relegation today. Brive won 33-17 against Stade Français in Paris. Andrés Zafra and Lucas Paulos formed the second-row for the winning team. The vital win sees Brive ending their season in 12th place.

What is good news for Brive is bad news for Perpignan. The Catalans finish the regular season 3 points behind Brive. They were also winners on Sunday; their 22-15 win was against title contenders Bordeaux.

Perpignan will be back agin next weekend. They take-on Mont de Marsan in a promotion-relegation match. Mont de Marsan were beaten on Sunday in the Pro D2 final by Bayonne. That outcome means the team has one final shot at promotion. The winner of Perpignan vs Mont de Marsan will secure the 14th spot in the 2022-2023 Top 14.

Perpignan is the current home of Pumas Jerónimo de la Fuente, Bautista Delguy and Joaquín Oviedo. It is also home to former Pumas Martín Landajo and Patricio Fernández. de la Fuente is likely to play opposite fellow Puma Lucas Mensa in the decider next weekend. Argentine hooker Pablo Dimcheff was a try scorer today for Mont de Marsan.

Zafra and Paulos will be back again for Brive next season. The club is also home to uncapped Argentine Axel Muller. Pumas N8 Rodrigo Bruni will join them at Brive next season.
