SLAR Champions Name Young Roster for Challenge Cup of the Americas

The SLAR 2022 champions will have a young roster represent them in the upcoming Challenge Cup of the Americas in Colorado. A young Peñarol roster has been named. It is so in part due to Uruguay’s tour to Japan this month and also to prepare for the future.

All players selected for the tournament are uncapped. The roster is a u23 an academy team. By way of comparison, in years gone by such a team would have consisted of Uruguayans playing for amateur clubs.

A number of the players for the Challenge Cup of the Americas were on the initial Peñarol roster for SLAR 2022. With the decision made to field test players and names close to debuting, there were not opportunities for everyone. Indeed; the Peñarol roster for the Challenge Cup of the Americas does not contain SLAR 2022 players.

The roster has players who featured for Uruguay u20’s in South Africa in 2021. Los Teritos faced Argentina u20’s, Georgia u20’s and South Africa u20’s.

Juan Martín David, Javier Garese, Augustio Paullier, Ignacio Rua, and Juan Bautista Zerbino are all examples.

Players from that tournament who did play in SLAR 2022 include Santiago Álvarez, Bautista Basso, Lucas Bianchi, Carlos Deus, and Juan Manuel Tafernaberry. They will not play in the Challenge Cup of the Americas.
