Uruguay Roster Named for Japan Tour

Uruguay will take a 26-man roster to Japan. The South Americans are to play two test matches against the Asian country later this month. Los Teros will also spend time in camp training with the South Korean team.

Los Teros face Japan on June 18 at Chichibunomiya Stadium and on June 25 at Mikuni Stadium. The two-match-tour wil be followed with Uruguay playing at home against Romania and Japan doing so against France.

The roster includes twenty-three players from 2022 SLAR champions Peñarol. Andrés Vilaseca is one of them and he will lead the team in Japan. The three names from elsewhere play their rugby in Europe. They are second-rower Franco Lamanna, and centers Nicolás Freitas, and Juan Manuel Alonso.

Vilaseca, Lamanna and Freitas are all returning to Japan; they played at RWC 2019. So too did others such as Juan Echeverría, Guillermo Pujadas, Diego Magno, Santiago Civetta, Felipe Etcheverry, Rodrigo Silva and SLAR MVP Manuel Ardao.

The roster also contains seven uncapped players. They are Emiliano Faccenini, Mathías Franco, Tomás Etcheverry, Lucas Bianchi, Carlos Deus, Santiago Álvarez, and Bautista Basso.

The roster is missing some players due to injuries. They include tight head Diego Arbelo, hooker Facundo Gattas, and center Felipe Arcos Pérez. Others miss out due to the tour falling outside of the test relase window. Players of this nature are Santiago Arata, Felipe Berchesi, Ignacio Dotti, Germán Kessler, Manuel Leindekar, Gastón Mieres, Agustín Ormaechea, and Mateo Sanguinetti.
