Stade Français sign Juan Martín Sclezo, the son of Pumas Great

Stade Français have recruited Juan Martín Scelzo. The Parisians will be home to the son of Puma great Martín Scelzo until 2024. The club has recruited the 20-year-old from Clermont Espoirs.

Martín Scelzo played in Rugby World Cups 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011. The tight head prop from Buenos Aires played 59 times for Argentina. He was a product of club Banco Hipotecario Nacional and also played for Hindú. As a professional he played for the Northampton Saints, Narbonne, Clermont and Agen.

Juan Martín Sclezo is thus to be a second generation Top 14 player. Unlike his father, Juan Martín Scelzo plays in the back-row. In addition, having lived in France he qualifies as a Joueur Issu des Filières de Formation (JIFF) player.

The 20-year-old started his career at Club Genès Champanelle. He has already trained with and played for Los Pumitas. His move to the Top 14 follows time now only with Clermont Espoirs but also with Issoire Rugby in the Fédérale 1.

Scelzo will be one of three Argentine players at Stade Français next season. He joins Pumas flanker Marcos Kremer and veteran fly half Nicolás Sánchez. The team is coached by former Puma Gonzalo Quesada.
