Jaguares XV awaken to crush Cobras

Los Jaguares XV got the message and responded. They put in their best performance of SLAR 2022 to crush Os Cobras 84-15 on Sunday. The star of the match was Ignacio Mendy. He outperformed his hat-trick from two weeks ago to score five tries in the match.

Mendy had a strong game; he looked like a man on a mission. Michael Cheika certainly will have his name in consideration. Playing on the right wing, Mendy scored a first-half hat-trick and added two further tries in the second-half.

Players made opportunities and the team clicked. Gerónimo Prisciantelli ran the game well from fly half. He was involved in try assists and also scored a try. Centers Juan Pablo Castro and Agustín Segura both also scored. The rampant-running Jaguares XV were unstoppable.

Mendy’s hat-trick was completed in the 23rd minute. At this stage the match result was known. The big lead could have been bigger but Prisciantelli missed his first four shots at goal. His overall figures of 8/13 or 62% will not be sufficient for him to be considered as a first-choice goal-kicker for Los Pumas.

Os Cobras scored three tries in the match. The first saw hooker Endy Willian touching down. The 20th minute score was the only first half point registered by the Brazilian team. The second Cobras try was scored early in the final quarter. Replacement hooker Leonardo de Souza went over from a maul. The best was saved for last as Devon Muller did well to finish off a try with an assist from Daniel Sancery.

All three of Os Cobras tries were followed by Jaguares XV tries. It was not a match to remember for the Brazilian side. There will be a lot to analyze as the season has concluded. Getting to the play-off’s of SLAR 2023 must now be the team’s target. Additional players from abroad may part of the answer. Los Cafeteros Pro in 2022 and the Olímpia Lions in 2021 offer cases in point.
