SLAR 2022 – Cobras vs Jaguares XV – ARN Guide

Os Cobras face Los Jaguares XV in the final round of the SLAR 2022 regular season. It is a match wherein neither team has anything to lose. Win, lose or draw the Brazilian side will not play in the SLAR Semi Finals. Los Jaguares XV are assured of a Semi Final against Selknam.

The Argentines have gone for a fresh line-up. Numerous changes make it a team very different to that which was badly beaten by Peñarol earlier on in the week. Tomás Cubilla is back to lead the team from outside center.

The back-line will be run by Gerónimo Prisciantelli. He is back after having been rested. Ignacio Mendy moves from fullback to wing with Martín Bogado getting a start at the back. There is also an opportunity for Mateo Albanese at scrum-half. he is the son of Diego Albanese, a hero from RWC 1999 against Ireland.

Nicolás Revol Pitt starts ahead of Puma Mayco Vivas at loose head prop. Fellow former Super Rugby player, Bautista Pedemonte is also to feature as a replacement. First-choice hooker Ignacio Ruíz will start while Pedro Rubiolo, and Manuel Bernstein lock the scrum. The duo doing so underlines why this line-up  is a more sensible selection than that from most earlier rounds.

Os Cobras have gone for a line-up that resembles a test team. This is Brazil’s opportunity at facing the Argentina XV outside of South American Championship fixtures. The exception is at fly half where Bautista Santamarina starts.

The front-row of Brendon Alves, Endy Willian, and Henrique Ribeiro is close to that which may start for Brazil this year. Veteran Lucas Abud is on the bench. Gabriel Paganini starts in the second-row. He is a long-time performer for his country. A relative newcomer in Kauã de Oliveira will partner him.

One of Brazil’s most consistent performers over the past few years has been Cléber Días. He has ályed mostly in the second-row, but will play flanker against Los Jaguares XV to finish off SLAR 2022 for Os Cobras. Días may be the MVP for Os Cobras this year.

Días is joined by Matheus Cláudio, and André Arruda in the back-row. It is Brazil’s top combination. They will have test players outside them with Douglas Rauth at scrum-half, Daniel Lima, and Daniel Sacnery on the wings and Joel Dos Santos, and Robert Tenorio in the centers. Lucas Tranquez will offer a second play-maker option from fullback.
