Colombia set to face Panama in Medellín

Colombia is set to face Panama this month in Medellín. The neighboring countries are to play in a series of friendlies in the Colombian city on May 20-22.  The matches will take place at the Unidad desportiva José René Higuita.

Panama were granted full Sudamérica Rugby membership in 2017 and were awarded World Rugby associate member status in November 2020. In between these two important occasions, Panama defeated Honduras and El Salvador to win the 2018 Centroamericano.

During and since then, Colombia has risen to overtake Paraguay in the South American standings. The most recent match between the teams was a 54-15 win by Colombia in the Americas Rugby Challenge (ARCh).

Colombia and Paraguay both have a team in the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). Los Cafeteros Pro face the Olímpia Lions on Saturday in Montevideo with the winner advancing to the SLAR Semi Finals to face Peñarol.
