Felipe Arcos Pérez in danger of missing Japan tour due to broken foot

Peñarol and Uruguay have a problem. Center Felipe Arcos Pérez suffered a broken foot and will not play again in the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) 2022 season. Arcos Pérez was injured playing for Peñarol against the Olímpia Lions on Friday.

News out of Uruguay is that Arcos Pérez is out for six weeks. This means more than an end to his SLAR season; he is in danger of missing Uruguay’ two match tour of Japan in June. Los Teros are to face Japan on Saturday, June 18 and on Saturday, June 25.

Arcos Pérez has been the starting outside center for Peãnrol in the SLAR 2022 season. With Nicolás Freitas busy in France, Arcos Pérez was well-placed to start for Uruguay if Freitas cannot play due to the tour being outside of the World Rugby player release windows.

How Peñarol will approach the remainder of the season is also clouded. In addition to the loss of Arcos Pérez, the Uruguayan SLAR franchise is without Bautista Basso and Mateo Viñals. The former had been the understudy to Arcos Pérez this season. They may be back for the play-off’s. Until then, Tomás Inciarte may move from scrum-half as cover.
