Rovigo with Argentines Go One Up over Valorugby in Italian Top 10 Semi Finals

Rovigo won an arm-wrestle of a contest on Sunday against Valorugby Emilia. The 16-9 victory means Rovigo are one up over Valorugby in the two Semi Finals contest of the Italian Top 10. The teams will meet again next weekend in the return match.

Sunday’s fixture was the second Semi Final of the weekend. The first was also close; Calvisano defeated Petrarca 16-12. The midway stage of the Italian Top 10 Semi Finals indicate that Calvisano and Rovigo will meet in the Final.

Rovigo’s performance against Valorugby in Sunday’s Semi Final was a win on merit. Three Argentines started for Rovigo. Former Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) player Facundo Ferrario played inside center while Lucas Bur was second-row and Rafael Lertora played on the right wing. Ferrario is eligible to play for Italy.

Valorugby also took to the field with Argentine players. Two Pumas started for Valorugby. Gonzalo García started at scrum-half and Javier Díaz did so at loose head prop. Also involved was Argentina XV’s Teo Castiglioni who played outside center. The trio were involved in SLAR 2021. Brazilian-capped Matteo Dell’Acqua started in the second-row while Piero Dominguez featured as replacement fly half.
