Zebre sign Italian-eligible Argentine flanker Guido Volpi

Italian side Zebre have announced the signing of Argentine flanker Guido Volpi. The United Rugby Championship (URC) have recruited the 26-year-old in what is a return to the URC. Volpi previously played for the Ospreys. He joins Zebre from the Doncaster Knights in England’s RFU Championship.

Volpi has been playing in Europe for a long time. The former Argentine u18 back-rower moved to Europe at the age of 21. He joined French second division side Narbonne in 2017. The following year he signed for the Ospreys. His move to West Wales was historic; Volpi is the first Argentine player to play for the Welsh region.

He subsequently transfered to the Doncaster Knights and then back to the Ospreys before again playing in the RFU Championship.

In Argentina he played for CUQ Rugby in Greater Buenos Aires and was a product of the PladAR system. He remains uncapped by Argentina and also unattached. He qualifies for Italy via eligibility laws. Standing 1.93m tall and weighing 110kg, Volpi can also cover lock though he has been signed as a loose forward. He is uncapped by Argentina.
