Gonzalo García Shortlisted for Italian Top 10 MVP Award

Gonzalo García has been shortlisted for the Italian Top 10 MVP award. The Puma is one of three finalists for what is the player of the year in Italy’s domestic championship.

The Italian Top 10 regular season has concluded. Petrarca, Rovigo, Valorugby and Calvisano will contest the play-off’s. Petrarca take-on Calvisano in the first Semi Final on Saturday, May 07. Valorugby face Rovigo in the second Semi Final on Sunday, May 8. The return matches will be played on May 14 and 15 respectively while the Italian Top 10 Final will on on May 28 in Parma.

The end of the regular season sees the naming of the top performers. They are Alessandro Izekor (Calvisano), Gonzalo Garcia (Valorugby) and Simone Gesi (Colorno).

The 22-year-old Izekor had a strong season for Calvisano. The physical flanker put in a busy work rate. It saw him earning selection for Italy A and he featured as a medical joker for United Rugby Championsihp (URC) side Benetton.

Gonzalo Garcia was recruited by Valorugby following his test debut for Argentina in the 2021 Rugby Championship. He was a stand-out for Los Pumitas at the Junior World Championship and subsequently for Los Cafeteros Pro in the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby.

The third finalist is also an Italy A player. Simone Gesi usually plays on the wing. His performances saw him featuring for Zebre as a Medical Joker and earning a full-time contract with the URC side next season.
