SLAR 2022 – Jaguares XV vs Olímpia Lions – ARN Guide

Los Jaguares XV clash with the Olímpia Lions in the feature match of round seven of the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). The teams are both in the Semi Finals frame with the Argentine side 2ndand the Paraguayans in fth at present. The winning team will boost their push to the play-off’s.

Tomás Cubilla will again captain Los Jaguares XV. He continues to move between wing and outside center and will start in the later position against the Olímpia Lions. He is to join the Clermont-bound Juan Pablo Castro and have Puma Ignacio Mendy outside him on the right wing.

The four other starting backs are up-and-comers. All four could receive a call from Michael Cheika at some stage this year. Argentina’s fly half situation certainly makes Gerónimo Prisciantelli a player to follow closely in SLAR. He and Mendy are arguably the two Jaguares XV backs with the most chance of game time in July against Scotland.

Rotation has come in the forwards. Manuel Bernstein continues his move around the pack. He has played second-row and both flanker positions. Pedro Rubiolo and Rodrigo Fernández Criado are to start in the second-row with an opportunity for Eliseo Chiavassa together with berntein and Santiago Ruiz in the back-row.

The Olímpia Lions’ team is different to that from past rounds. Changes mean a powerful replacements bench; if the Paraguayan side can match Los Jaguares XV throughout the first half then they will have a real shot at causing an upset in the second half.

In the pack there is a start for Agustín Toth in the second-row and for Rolando Portillo at tight head. The backs similar see some fresh faces. Nicolás Hogg will have his first SLAR start at fly half and Agustín Cortes will start the match on the right wing.

A win for the Olímpia Lions would be historic. Los Jaguares XV have won prior matches between the sides and Los Ceibos also defeated the Olímpia Lions in SLAR 2020.
