Matías Orlando signs on for two More Years at Newcastle Falcons

Matías Orlando will remain at the Newcastle Falcons for two more years. The 30-year-old  joined the English Premiership in 2020 following that year’s Tri Nations competition. The Falcons snapped up the Pumas center after he became available due to the end of Los Jaguares in Super Rugby.

The Tucumáno was one of many Jaguares’ to make the move north. He followed Guido PettiJerónimo de la FuenteMarcos Kremer and Matías Alemanno from Jaguares to Europe.

Orlando is now aged 30. He and de la Fuente were the starting centers for Los Pumas at RWC 2019. Since then more players have come on to the scene with Santiago Chocobares having forced his way into the starting line-up while Matiás Moroni has featured on both the wing and at outside center and Juan Cruz Mallía has played fullback and outside center.

Orlando is approaching 50 caps; he presently has 47 caps for Argentina. He has made 18 appearances for the Newcastle Falcons. He is one of two Pumas presently at the club. Fellow Tucumán back, Mateo Carreras already recently signed a new long-term deal to remain at the Newcastle Falcons.

Both Orlando and Carreras are on the radar for RWC 2023 selection. They will be considered for Argentina’s upcoming home internationals against Scotland. Los Pumas will play host to the Scots in July. The matches will be played in the northern Argentine cities of Jujuy, Salta and Santiago del Estero.
