Two Tries by Pumas Help Gloucester into Quarter Final

In an all-English Premiership fixture, Gloucester overcame the Northampton Saints 31-21 on Saturday. The victory, which included two tries scored by Pumas, sees Gloucester into the Quarter Finals of the European Challenge Cup.

Second-rower Matías Alemanno scored in the first half and hooker Santiago Socino scored in the second. The two tries were half of the four scored by Gloucester during the 80 minute contest.

Alemanno and Socino both played for Argentina in 2020-2021 when Michael Cheika acted as an assistant to former head coach Mario Ledesma. Cheika willl take charge of Los Pumas as head coach for the first time in July.

In addition to Alemanno and Socino, Gloucester had a third Puma involved. Santiago Carreras was the starting fullback. Carreras has played not he wing throughout the season but was used at fly half by Ledesma for the second half of 2021.

Carreras acted as a second play-maker for Gloucester against Northampton. He passed well. In short, the jury is out on whether he returns to play wing in 2022 or if he will play fullback or will be be retained at fly half?
