Juan Bautista Pedemonte will move to France to play for Vannes. The 22-year-old has signed a three-year contract that will see him at the club until 2025. It is to be Pedemonte’s first contract with a foreign club. He is presently playing Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) with Los Jaguares XV.
Pedemonte impressed for Argentina u20’s. His performances saw his name underlined and he was training with Los Jaguares Super Rugby as a teenager. He made his Super Rugby debut in 2000, the final season in which the Argentine franchise was involved.
The N8 is a strong ball-carrier and defender. He is a product of Santiago Lawn Tennis Club (SLTC). The same club produced current Pumas back-rowers Facundo Isa and Tomás Lezana. It also produced Juan Manuel Leguizamón, a man who played at four Rugby World Cups.
Vannes is presently the home of two other Argentines, both of whom are also back-rowers. Rodrigo Bruni joined Vannes in late 2020 while Francisco Gorrissen did so in late 2021. Bruni will join Brive next season, a move that will see him playing in the Top 14. Pedemonte is to be Bruni’s replacement at Vannes.
Both Bruni and Gorrissen played for Los Pumas in 2020-2021. Pedemonte is uncapped by Argentina. Injury saw him miss the 2020 Tri Nations, a tournament that he may have otherwise had made his test debut.
