Argentina down USA Eagles to claim 5th Place in Singapore 7’s

Argentina were convincing 42-24 winners over the USA Eagles in Singapore. The win handed Los Pumas 7’s fifth place in the tournament with the USA finishing one place lower.

The win ended a tough day for Argentina. Earlier on Los Pumas 7’s had been beaten 29-5 by Australia in the Cup Quarter Finals. That outcome send Argentina to a match against the Series leading South Africa. Los Pumas 7’s put on an extraordinary performance to complete a 22-15 victory.

The win over South Africa saw Argentina qualify for the 5th place final against the USA Eagles. The Eagles booked their place in the 5th place final by defeating Samoa 24-17. Earlier on the USA fell to a 14-12 loss against Ireland.

Ireland’s impressive tournament saw them finishing 4th. They were beaten 21-19 by Australia in the Bronze Final. The Cup Final was won by Fiji. The reigning two-time Olympic Gold Medalists were 28-17 winners in the final against New Zealand.

Los Pumas 7’s performance to finish 5th involved sgrong performances from Felipe del Mestre and Luciano González. The latter made Tobías Wade pay for an error as Argentina scored three first half tries.

The Argentines added three more tries in the second half. Agustín Fraga, Germán Schulz, and Marcos Moneta all came off the bench to touch down for Los Pumas 7’s.
