Pro Paraguayan team hosts pro Colombian team for the first time

History will be made on Friday. The Olímpia Lions will play host to Los Cafeteros Pro in a round five match in SLAR 2022. The fixture will mark the first time ever than a Paraguayan  professional rugby team will have hosted a Colombian professional team.

The Olímpia Lions are playing their third season in the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby while Los Cafeteros Pro are playing their second. The Paraguayans were set to host Corinthians in the first-ever professional rugby match between teams from Paraguay and Brazil in 2020. It was called-up and the season was suspended.

The Paraguayan side did well in their second SLAR campaign. They reached the Semi Finals of SLAR 2021, doing so by claiming some big wins along the way. Los Cafeteros Pro had their moments during their rookie SLAR season but were ultimately winless.

The Colombian SLAR entrant has started SLAR 2022 well. They defeated Os Cobras last month to claim their first professional rugby victory. A second win very nearly came as recently as last weekend. A missed penalty goal with time up saw Los Cafeteros Por defeated by a single point.

The history-making Paraguayan vs Colombian professional rugby match will be played at the Estadio 03 de Febrero in Ciudad del Este. The venue made its SLAR debut last weekend.
