Worcester Warriors recruit Puma Santiago Medrano from Western Force

The Worcester Warriors will be the new home of Pumas prop Santiago Medrano. The English Premiership side have recruited the Buenos Aires prop for the 2022-2023 season.

The club noted that they were interested in Medrano with coach Steve Diamond saying that:

“Santi is a dynamic, powerful and mobile prop He comes highly recommended and, at 25 years-old with 30 caps under his belt, has the ideal profile I am looking for to join the club.”

With 27 test caps to his name Medrano, is one of Argentina’s leading tight head props. He and three others played for Los Pumas in 2021. The others all presently play professional rugby in Europe. They are Eduardo Bello (Zebre), Francisco Gómez Kodela (Lyon), and Enrique Pieretto (Glasgow Warriors). Medrano joins them on Michael Cheika’s radar for potential international duty this year.

Medrano will take five years of Super Rugby experience with him to England. The now 25-year-old played for Los Jaguares in 2018-2020 before joining the Western Force for Super Rugby AU in 2021. He is presently playing his second season for the Western Australian franchise.

The Worcester Warriors presently do not have Argentines on their roster. The likes of Agustín Creevy, Mariano Galarza and Leonardo Senatore are all former Warriors. Medrano played with Creevy in Super Rugby. The product of Regatas Bella Vista will be playing against Creevy in the English Premiership next season.
