Olímpia Lions celebrate with home win over Cobras

The Olímpia Lions put on a strong showing at home against Os Cobras. The Paraguayan SLAR franchise celebrated a 42-17 victory at Ciudad del Este in a round four SLAR match on Saturday evening. Julián Quetglas started with two tries for the Olímpia Lions.

The convincing win came despite Os Cobras having had the better of early play. The Brazilian SLAR entrant came out on fire and turned their chances into points. Wingers Daniel Lima and Robson de Moraes both found their way into the try zone for early tries.

Os Cobras dream start came at a cost. Injuries forced two players off, including the leading Cobras player from SLAR 2021, André Arruda. The early changes appeared to harm the Brazilians as the Olímpia Lions were able to strike back.

With more possession the Olímpia Lions found their way onto the score sheet. They did so with three tries to overcome the 12-0 deficit and turn it into a 19-12 half-time lead.

The Olímpia Lions were the better side throughout the second half. Fullback Julián Quetglas delivered a strong performance with two tries. Ignacio Inchauspe and Federico Simondi also both impressed as the Olímpia Lions’ Argentine players helped the Paraguayan franchise overcome the Brazilians.

The win lifts the Olímpia Lions above Los Jaguares XV. The Paraguayans are now in third position. Os Cobras remain winless and at the bottom of the table. Os Cobras face Los Jaguares XV next while the Olímpia Lions take on Los Cafeteros Pro. Both matches will be played on Friday.
