Old Glory parts ways with Head Coach Andrew Douglas

Andrew Douglas is no longer the Head Coach of Old Glory DC. The struggling club has confirmed that a change has been made with immediate effect. An interim coaching structure will be confirmed for the remainder of the season, with the club instituting a ‘world-wide search’ for a long-term successor.

Hailing from New Zealand, Douglas has been at the helm of Old Glory since their inaugural exhibition campaign in 2019. The team enjoyed an impressive 4-1 record in the truncated 2020 season before sliding to 5th place in the Eastern Conference in 2021 with a 6-9-1 record. An 0-7 start with only 1 competition point thus far in 2022 has led to the decision to change direction in DC.

With Scott Lawrence departing Rugby ATL earlier this year, Douglas was the only remaining ‘original’ coach in Major League Rugby. His current assistants at Old Glory include Toshi Palamo, Callum Gibbins, and James Willocks. Palamo has also been with the team since 2019. Gibbins initially signed as a player-coach in 2021 with Willocks joined from Dartmouth University this year.
