Old Glory signs Uruguay hooker Facundo Gattas

Old Glory DC have bolstered their front row with the addition of Uruguayan international Facundo Gattas for the remainder of the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 26-year-old played for Los Teros at the 2019 World Cup and has represented his country 37 times since debuting against Canada in 2016.

Gattas played professionally for Peñarol during the 2021 SLAR season, but he did not re-sign for the Uruguayan franchise this year. He instead opted to return to the Hindú club in Buenos Aires, with whom he has played for in the URBA Top 14 since 2018.

Also comfortable at loosehead prop, Gattas arrives primarily as a hooker. He started for Los Teros in last year’s victorious World Cup Qualifying series against the USA in the absence of Germán Kessler. Gattas joins NOLA’s Ignacio Dotti and Toronto’s Gastón Mieres as the only Uruguayans currently in MLR.
