Clermont recruit Juan Pablo Castro from Jaguares XV

Clermont have recruited Juan Pablo Castro from Los Jaguares XV. The French Top 14 side has signed the Jaguares XV vice-captain as a medical joker for injured center Apisai Naqalevu. The Fijian is out for the season with a broken arm.

Castro captained Los Jaguares XV in the opening round of the 2022 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). The Argentine franchise were 33-22 winners against Los Cafeteros Pro. He also started at inside center in round two’s 49-22 win over the Olímpia Lions.

The 22-year-old is uncapped by Argentina. He has, however, toured with the test team. Castro is 1.89m (6-2) tall and weighs 95kg (210lbs). He is a product of San Juan RC. His hometown will play host to Argentina vs Australia later this year as part of the 2022 Rugby Championship.

Clermont will be Castro’s first foreign club. He follows Jaguares XV 2021 inside center, Santiago Chocobares, to the Top 14. Chocobares is now playing his second season for Toulouse.

Castro will join Puma Tomás Lavanini at Clermont. The club has been home to additional Pumas over the years including RWC players Agustín Creevy, Gonzalo Longo, Mario Ledesma, Hernán Senillosa and Martín Scelzo.
