Impressive Peñarol put on a show against Cafeteros Pro

Peñarol are 2-0 after two rounds of the 2022 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby. The Uruguayan franchise were impressive 44-0 winners against Los Cafeteros Pro today. The outcome is five competition points for Peñarol and zero for Los Cafeteros Pro.

Despite the scoreline, the early play was very even. The only points of the opening corner were an 18th minute penalty to Peñarol winger Federico Favaro. He landed what was his third attempted penalty of the match.

Peñarol went from 3-0 ahead to 20-0 ahead fourteen minutes later. Tries to hooker Guillermo Pujadas and center Andrés Vilaseca placed the Uruguayans in a dominant position. Not only was the contest over but the Colombian side was evidently frustrated. A high penalty count of 10 first half penalties was accompanied by a first half yellow card as well as a second later in the contest.

The Colombian franchise held form in the third quarter. Like in the first half, a yellow card contributed to a downward spiral for Los Cafeteros Pro. Felipe Arcos Pérez ran in his first of two second half tries to extend the lead. Then, replacements Emiliano Faccennini and Nicolás Roger crossed late in the half to give Peñarol a 44-0 win.

Los Cafeteros will look to rebound and claim their first win of SLAR in round three. They are up against Os Cobras. Peñarol will face the Olímpia Lions, a team to have made a good showing in the first two rounds of SLAR 2022.
