Canada West to play American Raptors in May

The Canada West Selects will host the American Raptors on May 14 at Starlight Stadium in Langford. It’s the first in a series of matches being planned for the Selects in the coming months, though further opponents have yet to be revealed.

Former Canadian international and current Pacific Pride coach Phil Mack will lead the side. The playing group will be comprised of players in the under-25 age group who have excelled in the fall’s Coastal Cup campaign and the current BC Premier League. Canada West was initially to play the Seattle Seawolves in January but pandemic complications saw the game cancelled.

The Raptors are a Colorado-based development program that includes several athletes from other sports attempting making the switch to rugby. It was created following the dissolution of the Colorado Raptors in Major League Rugby, and has already seen several players sign for teams in the professional competition.
