Houston acquires ATL lock Marno Redelinghuys

The Houston SaberCats have acquired Marno Redelinghuys from Rugby ATL in exchange for a 1st round draft pick and a one-month loan of Kian Meadon. As part of the trade the SaberCats will also receive a 3rd round draft pick. Both selections apply to the 2022 Collegiate Draft.

Redelinghuys was a first choice player for the Ratlers in 2021, playing 17 games including 14 starts. Primarily a second row, the 6’5″ (1.96m) South African is also at home on the blindside flank. He did not appear to be in ATL’s plans this season following the arrival of Justin Basson from the Stormers.

Meadon, 21, is also South African and has represented his country at u20 level. The flyhalf or fullback started Houston’s season opener against LA but has not played since. ATL flyhalf Kurt Coleman was knocked out in a tackle during the first half of Saturday’s game against the SaberCats.
