MLR Notes: Fa’anana-Schultz suspended, Hodgson traded to Dallas

Old Glory DC eightman Jamason Fa’anana-Schultz has been suspended for five weeks for an act of foul play during the match against the Toronto Arrows on Saturday. The incident was not reviewed by the officials during the game itself, and was instead referred to the judiciary by the citing officer.

Video evidence showed that Fa’anana-Schultz struck Arrows flanker Lucas Rumball while being held in a ruck in the first half of the game. Though his acceptance of the act was a mitigating factor, he had a prior red card on his record from an incident in a game against the Houston SaberCats last May.

As a result the USA international will miss the upcoming games against the San Diego Legion, Rugby ATL, NOLA Gold, Rugby New York, and Toronto Arrows. Fa’anana-Schultz will be free to play again in the April 15 match against the Utah Warriors.

Meanwhile the New England Free Jacks have completed a trade with the Dallas Jackals. Heading to the expansion side is center or wing Cael Hodgson. The 23-year-old was selected 8th overall in the 2021 Collegiate Draft from Lindenwood University. He later represented the USA Selects at the Americas Pacific Challenge in Uruguay. New England receives salary cap considerations in return.
