Scott Lawrence has been appointed Defense Coach for the USA Eagles for the 2022 test season. The announcement comes less than a month after the 46-year-old resigned as Head Coach and General Manager of Rugby ATL.
For many the move was expected following Lawrence’s decision to step away from ATL. One of the USA’s most decorated coaches, he had previously served the Eagles in the same role for a two-year stretch starting in 2017. Lawrence then led the Ratlers to an Eastern Conference title during the 2021 Major League Rugby season.
The Men’s Eagles are set to play a two-match series against Chile in July with the Americas 2 qualification spot for Rugby World Cup 2023 on the line. In addition to his coaching role, Lawrence will aid Gary Gold by monitoring and meet with potential Eagles players support preparations for the Qualifier series with limited training time available prior to the tests.
