Selknam Homecoming for Marcelo Torrealba

Marcelo Torrealba will not continue with the Austin Gilgronis in Major League Rugby (MLR). The Chilean scrum-half will instead have a homecoming as he joins Chilean side Selknam to compete in the upcoming Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) season.

The 25-year-old is a native of Santiago and is a product of Old Boys. He spent two years of his highschool on exchange in Invercargill, New Zealand. When back in Chile he went on to play for Chile at junior level and in rugby sevens. He made his test debut for Los Cóndores in 2021; the historic year with wins over Canada and Russia.

El plantel de Selknam comienza a tomar forma con las primeras incorporaciones al equipo. El internacional chileno Marcelo Torrealba dejó la MLR y se sumó a la franquicia chilena para esta temporada.

He had offers to remain in MLR but decided to return to Santiago. The move will be him fully available for Chile’s preparations for the RWC 2023 qualifiers against the USA in July. His move to Selknam comes after three years of MLR for Austin.
