Los Pumas to return to Durban in 2022

Los Pumas are to return to play a test match in Durban in 2022. South Africa will play host to Argentina in the final round of this year’s Rugby Championship. The match will take place at Kings Park on Saturday, September 24. The teams will play one week earlier in Buenos Aires.

Argentina completed a famous win over South Africa in Durban in 2015. On that day Juan Imhoff became the first player in history to score a hat-trick against the Springboks. The win marked Argentina’s first official victory over South Africa.

South Africa hosted Argentina for both Rugby Championship matches between the countries in 2021. In 2022 they will return to playing on a home-and-away basis. However, this struxture has otherwise changed with South Africa hosting New Zealand for both test matches this year and facing the Wallabies twice in Australia. Similarly, Argentina will host Australia twice and face New Zealand twice in away matches.

Before the Rugby Championship, South Africa will begin 2022 wilth three home test matches against Wales. They are to coincide with Argentina’s home series against Scotland in July. There are suggestions of the tour expanding to include a match between Chile and Scotland.

The Springboks’ home matches against Wales will mark the first Welsh tour to the country since 2014. The three-macth-series will see the teams playing in Pretoria on Saturday, July 02; Bloemfontein on Saturday, July 09; and Cape Town on Saturday, July 16.

From there, South Africa will play host to the All Blacks in Nelspruit on Saturday, August 06, and then at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on Saturday, August 13. Away matches will follow with two in Australia and one in Argentina before the final match against Los Pumas in Durban.
