Uruguay’s RWC 2023 Africa 1 opponent to be confirmed in July tournament in France

Uruguay’s Africa 1 opposition at RWC 2023 will be confirmed in July. Eight countries will compete in the French cities of Aix-en-Province and Marseilles. The winner will qualify for the World Cup, joining France, Italy, New Zealand and Uruguay in Pool A.

Africa 1 will be the Rugby Africa Cup 2022 champion. Namibia top the list to become that team. The Welwitschias have qualified for six consecutive Rugby World Cups (1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019). Zimbabwe participated in RWCs 1987 and 1991 while Cote d’Ivoire played in RWC 1995.

The same three will compete in France in July. They are to be joined by Algeria, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Senegal and Uganda. The first section of the matches are organized as Quarter Finals. The winner of Namibia vs Burkina Faso will face the winner of Cote d’Ivoire vs Zimbabwe in the Semi Finals.

On the other side of the draw, the winner of Algeria vs Senegal will advance to face the winner of the derby between Kenya and Uganda. The two beaten Semi Finalists will contest a Bronze Final.

Uruguay awaits the result of the Rugby Africa Cup. The Uruguay vs Africa 1 match will take place in Lyon on September 27, 2023. It is to be the third of four pool matches for Los Teros. The South Americans will begin their campaign against France in Lille on September 14 and play againsty Italy in Nice in their second match on September 20. The fixture against New Zealand will be in Lyon on October 05, 2023.
