Bronze for Argentina as Blitzboks win Seville Men’s 7s

Make it six straight World Sevens Series men’s titles for South Africa. The Blitzboks proved a class apart once again as they dominated Ireland and then Australia to claim their fourth Cup Final victory of the season. Los Pumas settled for a 3rd place finish, with the USA taking 5th spot.

Argentina were beaten by Australia in the Semi Final, Corey Toole’s double enough by itself to earn the win. Tries from Gastón Revol and Rodrigo Isgro brought Los Pumas back from an early deficit to beat Ireland in the Bronze Final.

The USA started their day against France with Carlin Isles, Marcus Tupuola, and Kevon Williams all touching down in the 19-12 victory. All three scored against England in their last match of the tournament, with Stephen Tomasin’s 100th career World Series try adding the extra five needed for the win.

Nick Allen scored twice for Canada in a dominant victory over Rugby Americas North opponents Jamaica. Despite 9 points from Thomas Isherwood they could not get past Wales, however, with the Canadians falling to a 14th place finish.

The defeat would be Jamaica’s only match of the day, and they would end in bottom spot. Samoa had withdrawn from the tournament leaving only 15 teams competing.

Los Pumas remain in 2nd place overall after four tournaments but South Africa’s lead continues to grow with 18 points between the two sides. The USA are in 4th spot, 11 points back of 3rd-place Australia. Canada are in 13th spot but just six points back of 9th place Spain.

The Series now goes on a two-month hiatus due to the pandemic with Singapore and Vancouver to be played in mid-April. Toulouse and London will host events in late May, with the season concluding at Los Angeles in late August.
