Los Pumas charge into Seville Men’s Semi Finals

Argentina will once again represent the Americas in the Cup Semi Final round. Los Pumas topped Pool B and edged France in the Quarter Final at the Seville Sevens, with Australia now standing in the way of a second consecutive Cup Final.

Two tries each from skipper Santiago Álvarez and Luciano González Rizzoni saw Argentina cruise past Jamaica, with Germany their next victim in similar fashion. A late try from Marcos Moneta earned victory over Ireland and it was Franco Sábato’s try at the death that sealed the Quarter Final win over France.

The USA nearly tumbled in their tournament opener but were spared defeat against hosts Spain by a last-gasp Carlin Isles try. After a bye they took on series leaders South Africa and came close but ultimately a pair of tries from captain Kevon Williams wasn’t enough to earn the upset. An in-form Australia side overwhelmed the Eagles in the Quarter Final.

Canada had little to show for with three straight defeats in the pool stage and only four tries scored. They now take on Spain in the first 9th place Quarter Final. The second will feature Jamaica against Japan. Dyneal Fessal scored Jamaica’s only try of the pool stage against Germany, with shutout losses coming against Argentina and Ireland.
