Women’s Eagles crowned Champions in Málaga

The USA emerged as champions in the women’s bracket of the Málaga Sevens. A dominant 35-10 win over Russia in the Cup Final capped an undefeated tournament for the Eagles in their first World Sevens Series win of the new season. Jaz Gray contributed two tries with Ilona Maher earning Player of the Final honors.

It was a stiffer challenge in the Semi Final, as two tries from Alena Olsen proved the difference in a 14-10 win over France. By this point the USA were down to only 10 players after losing Cheta Emba, Mata Hingano, and Alex Sedrick to injury in earlier action.

Canada redeemed their Day Two loss to Poland with a 26-7 win over the invitational side in their first match of Day Three. They would slump to defeat against Ireland by a nearly-identical score in their last game of the tournament to finish in 6th spot.

After three events the USA are now in 4th overall with Canada in 7th and Brazil in 10th. The circuit stays in Spain for another weekend with Seville up next as hosts.
