Poland produced a stunning upset of Canada on Day Two of the Málaga Sevens. Nakisa Levale’s double for the North Americans was overshadowed by a hat trick from Malgorzata Koldej. It vaulted Poland into the Cup Quarter Finals, the first time an invitational team has achieved that in the women’s draw.
The pool stage result did not cost the Canadians a spot in the Quarter Finals, thanks to Fiji’s withdrawal, but gave them a less favorable draw. Australia proved far too strong and cruised to a one-sided win which leaves Canada with another match against Poland in the 5th place Semi Final.
With a bye in their final round of the pool stage, the USA were well-rested ahead of their Cup Quarter Final match against England. Four different players touched down as the Eagles secured their spot opposite France in the Semi Finals.
Brazil’s tournament meanwhile came to an early close. As Yaras were defeated by England in their final pool match and then came up short against Belgium in the 9th place Semi Final. They close the event in 11th spot, with Fiji awarded 12th place despite not competing.
