LA signs Great Britain’s Olympic captain Tom Mitchell

The LA Giltinis have signed World Sevens Series star Tom Mitchell on a two-year contract through 2023 Major League Rugby season. A long-time captain of the England Sevens side, the 32-year-old also led Great Britain in both the Rio and Tokyo Olympics games, winning Silver in 2016.

Mitchell notably lined up at flyhalf for Oxford University against Cambridge in the 2011 Varsity match, scoring a try in a winning effort. The following year he led Great Britain Students to a World Universities title. More recently he played for the London Royals at the World Tens Series event in Bermuda, competing with and against numerous MLR athletes.

Renowned as a playmaker in sevens, it remains to be seen where Mitchell will find himself with the Giltinis. Flyhalf is an option though his running skills suggest fullback may ultimately be his best fit.
