Pumas Sevens star Marcos Moroni signs for SaberCats subject to visa

The Houston SaberCats recruitment drive for the 2022 Major League Rugby season continues. The club are in the final stages of recruiting Pumas Sevens star Marcos Moroni. The move is subject to a visa. Moroni was a 2021 URBA Top 12 champion with CUBA.

Marcos Moroni is the younger brother of Matías Moroni, who represented Los Pumas at the 2015 and 2019 World Cups and is currently playing for Leicester Tigers. Unlike his brother, Marcos Moroni is uncapped. The 26-year-old is primarily a fullback but can also play on the wing.

Making his World Sevens Series debut at Dubai in 2017, the younger Moroni has played in 20 events on the circuit and played in the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco. He missed a significant portion of the 2019-2020 Series with a knee injury but has now returned to full fitness.

In their short history Houston has been home to several South American players. Argentine hooker Diego Fortuny and loosehead prop Nicolás Solveyra have been confirmed as returning for the 2022 season. They are to be joined by another Argentine front-rower; Juan Pablo Zeiss will join the team following two years of SLAR.
