San Diego signs Southland prop Joe Walsh

San Diego have announced the signing of loosehead prop Joe Walsh for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 28-year-old arrives from New Zealand where he has most recently been suiting up for the Southland Stags in the National Provincial Championship.

Walsh has been a regular in Southland’s squad since making the move from Waikato in 2016, and has racked up more than 50 games in the NPC. He was called up to the Blues squad in February of last year and made his Super Rugby debut a month later against the Lions.

The Legion now have two import props on the roster along with South African tighthead Hencus van Wyk. Domestic looseheads include newcomer Pat Lynott and returnee Nathan Sylvia, though the latter can also play tighthead. New USA Eagles international Faka’osi Pifeleti is also expected to return but has yet to be confirmed by the club for the new season.
