San Diego re-signs Josh Thiel and posts update on new venue

The San Diego Legion have re-signed Canadian international Josh Thiel for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. Now fully recovered from a knee injury that limited him to just one game last season, the 24-year-old will be looking to make up for lost time this year.

Thiel’s time was also limited during the 2020 campaign with one replacement appearance before the season was called off. His versatility is an asset to San Diego’s backline as Thiel is comfortable playing at flyhalf, center, and fullback.

Meanwhile the Legion have provided an update on their new venue at San Diego State University.

“Although Torero Stadium has been a fine home to the Legion, it is no longer available to us. That decision was out of our hands. We are very excited about our new partnership with San Diego State and the opportunities that await us in the future.

“We want to assure our fans that San Diego is our long term home and our long term home field is an issue we are addressing. In the meantime, in 2022 we want to ensure the stands are full, our fans can support our team, and everyone can enjoy a great San Diego Legion game day experience.”

Additionally the club have confirmed that with capacity restrictions both due to the size of the venue and the pandemic, tickets will be prioritized for season ticket holders with only a limited number of single game tickets available. Multi-game packages will offered shortly according to the release.
