Otago lock Will Tucker signs for Rugby New York

Rugby New York have added more height to their roster for the 2022 Major League Rugby season in the form of Otago lock Will Tucker. Standing nearly 6’8″ (2.02m), he joins returning trio Nick Civetta, Nate Brakeley, and Charlie Hewitt in New York’s engine room.

Tucker represented New Zealand at the 2018 World Rugby u20 Championship, and subsequently spent two years with Canterbury’s senior provincial squad. He signed for the Highlanders in 2020 and though he did not see any Super Rugby action, the 23-year-old has been a regular starter for Otago since.

There is already a family link for Tucker in MLR as brother Brad has starred for the Seattle Seawolves since 2019. Another brother, James, plays for Waikato and also the Brumbies in Super Rugby. It’s the fourth signing for New York in the past week following Nic Mayhew, Ed Fidow, and Brendon O’Connor.
