Argentines impress in Pro D2

Argentines continue to impress in the 2021-2022 Pro D2 season. In the latest round of France’s second division there were tries scored in addition to good general play from Argentines.

Pumas Francisco Gorrissen and Rodrigo Bruni featured for Vannes. The Brittany side were 35-23 winners over Nevers. Gorrissen touched down in the try zone for the opening score of the contest. He has settled in quickly and proven to be highly reliable for Vannes. Bruni will join Top 14 club Brive next season and there is reason to believe Top 14 sides will also be interested in Gorrissen.

Another Puma also found his way into the try zone in the latest round of the Pro D2. Mariano Galarza was a 68th minute try scorer for Bayonne. The La Plata giant captained Bayonne to a 16-16 away draw against Agen.

Brothers, Felipe Ezcurra and Bautista Ezcurra played together for the first time in France. They were both recited by Grenoble from the Americas. Felipe Ezcurra joined from Los Jaguares XV in SLAR and Bautista Ezcurra did so from Rugby ATL in MLR. Bautista Ezcurra landed a goal in what was a disappointing 38-10 loss against Oyonnax. Uruguayan Manuel Leindekar and Canadian Taylor Paris started for Oyonnax.

The Mauricio Reggiardo coached Provence were 20-15 winners over Béziers. The former Pumas tight head had Patagonian Federico Wegrzyn at loose head and Los Teros’ Germán Kessler at hooker. Nicolás Toth was on the bench but did not receive game time. He recently joined the team from Argentina.

Pro D2 leaders Mont de Marsan defeated Carcassone 25-10. Puma Carlos Muzzio started in the win at loose head and Italian-capped Argentine Leandro Cedaro played in the second-row. Lucas Mensa was involved as a replacement.

A second generation professional player, Bernard Reggiardo featured for Aurillac. The club were 18-13 winners over Narbonne. Former MLR player, Jason Robertson played for Narbonne as did Argentine second-row Manuel Plaza.

Bruni, Gorrissen and Felipe Ezcurra played for Argentina in 2021. The trio remain on the radar for international duty in 2022. Other Pro D2 names could also be selected in 2022 by Mario Ledesma for the mid-year test matches against Scotland in Argentina.
