San Diego re-signs Argentine center Thomas Morani

Having just announced the arrival of Matías Freyre from Houston, San Diego have now confirmed the re-signing of another US-eligible Argentine back. Miami-born and Buenos Aires-raised Thomas Morani will stay on with the Legion for the 2022 Major League Rugby season.

Like Freyre, Morani joined the SaberCats in 2020 and also started the 2021 season on their books. He was then loaned to Old Glory, starting three games, before being sent to San Diego for the second half of the season. The 26-year-old wore the No13 shirt in 7 of the Legion’s last 8 games of the year.

Though smaller in stature at only 5’9″ (1.75m), Morani has proven a dangerous attacker from the outside center channel and a skilled defender. He could soon find himself partnering Ma’a Nonu in the Legion’s midfield. Other center options include Freyre and returnees Tiaan Loots and Ryan Matyas.
