Puma Juan Pablo Zeiss will continue his career in Major League Rugby (MLR). The 32-year-old is to join the Houston SaberCats for the upcoming MLR season. The move sees him having his first experience of professional rugby outside of Argentina.
Zeiss joins the SaberCats in 2022 after having played SLAR in 2021 for Los Jaguares XV and in 2020 for Los Ceibos. The Patagonian also previously played Super Rugby for Los Jaguares.
The move opens up the possibility of the Houston SaberCats fielding an all-Argentine front-row. Nicolás Solveyra and Diego Fortuny are both on the roster. ARN can confirm that Houston are also in talks to sign another player from Argentina for the 2022 MLR season.
Additional Houston recruitment include, but is not limited to, Eagles Danny Barrett, Christian Dyer, Matai Leuta, Siaosi Mahoni and Maka Unufe. They are all capped by the USA at XV or Rugby 7’s. The team looms as being competitive in 2022. Could Zeiss have the opportunity to become the first player to win both the SLAR and MLR?
Zeiss has seven test caps for Argentina. He made his test debut in the 2018 Rugby Championship against the All Blacks in Nelson, New Zealand. His most recent cap was in the 2020 Tri Nations tournament in Australia. Zeiss featured in the 16-16 draw against the Wallabies in Sydney.
